September 21 2012 was a FriPhone5Day :). I had Pre-Ordered an iPhone online last week and the ship date was September 28 but I couldn’t wait for it. so I drove to Verizon store on Friday morning and grabbed a 32 GB black iPhone 5 and then cancelled my preorder. This is the first time I drove my car all alone to a place other than my office. The store is less than 4 miles from my home, but I drove extra 6-7 miles just because I was not able to change my lane :). Thats a different story…Here is my review on iPhone 5.
What I like:
The phone is super thin. I did not like the phone when I first saw it online, It looked as it was stretched from it’s original size. But in real, the phone is awesome. It is so flat and thin which even makes it hard to pick the phone from desk. The product design is so good. Kudos to Jonathan Ive. The Apps makes it more powerful and interesting. Also I’m jumping form GPRS to LTE. I got 25.27 Mbps download speed which is double the times faster than my wifi connection.
Thing of beauty.Fun with SIRI.Kings island ticket in Passbook. However I was not able to use it as the scanning machine in King island wasn’t working.
What is not exciting:
The User Interface is pretty old. Since the first iPhone, It has the same rows of jelly icons. It is cool, but aren’t we bored on seeing the same interface for 5 years ?. IOS 6 comes with features like Facebook integration, Passbook, Panorama which are new to iPhone that already exists in every other smart phones. Maps is not accurate. I had to use google maps on safari to get the correct route. Why not apple come up Edge to Edge display. I don’t like the bars at the top and bottom of the phone 🙂
What disappointed me:
The phone gives a thud sound when I shake it. Yes, the brand new phone has a loose component (battery not properly secured) inside. Even the display item in the store has the same issue. I called Verizon immediately but they had only white color phones available to replace, I did not want the white one so I took it to the Apple store to get it fixed. I appreciate Apple’s support. No more thuds now 🙂
What I miss from my previous phone (Windows Phone 7):
I’m a great fan of Windows Phone. It’s user interface is awesome and there is no other UI that’s so live and interactive. I totally depend on office docs and skydrive but now I need to make use of the notes on iCloud. The only major concern with my old phone was the battery. I had to charge it twice a day. iPhone is good for a day. Also syncing content from windows phone to mac was not that straight forward. May be I will switch back to windows phone (8) next time 😉
I got my exam results in mail. First I forgot my register number. So I phoned my friend to confirm. Then I was not sure what this ‘E’ means.
My friend has got lot of Es too, so that made me confused whether it is really pass :). I compared my previous results and found that E is just above F(Fail) which means I’m pass.
I’m not great in studies…but I’m an expert in clearing subjects with least marks 🙂
I have to finish my project and viva but it is not possible now as I cannot travel to India until next year.
I wrote this ambitious post when I joined MS in 2009 and another post few months back in confusion after Graph Theory examination. Now it is just one step to complete my degree.
PS: MS degree is as adventurous as Dangerous Dave and Super Mario. I’m in last level and hope to complete it soon.
I have created my first iBook named Tamil Alphabets. This book is about Uyir Ezhuthukal and Ayutha Ezhuthu of Tamil.
iBooks got me fascinated by its multimedia integration in to books. So I decided to create an interactive book about Tamil Alphabets. I have spent almost a month to complete this book and finally published it today. It just took 4 1/2 hours for Apple to review my book and now it is available on iTunes.

I bought my first car. It’s a pretty old 1997, Toyota Camry. I registered it in my name on tuesday and got it delivered on friday.
Optimus Prime
Since childhood, I buy vehicles before I know to drive them. That applies to my cycle and scooter. Till now I don’t know to drive geared motor bikes just because I didn’t own them. 😀
Now, I have bought a car with out having any idea of driving. I will have to learn and get a license soon. I hope to explore the city with this car.
Well, let me name my car. I like the name Bumble Bee but my Honda Activa and Cycle shares the same, So I will name it as Optimus Prime.
PS: I’m planing to buy Autobots emblem and a keychain. 🙂
I have a habit of sleeping with the lights on as I’m alone in my apartment, But today, I have to sleep without lights. There is no power due to storm in cincinnati 😦
I’m a man and I’m not afraid of storm, thunder or any other threats. but this darkness…OMG, It’s so scary :(.
The worst part is, I just watched a horror movie ‘Don’t be afraid of the dark’ at my friends place. I did not complete the movie and I asked my friend to drop me. When I’m back home, the power has not yet come. My friend asked me to sleep at his place, but for some unknown reason I said I’m good.
I’m surviving with the lights from my MacBook Pro’s screen. It is my only company now. It has 51% of battery power and I hope the lights will be back soon.
While typing this post on TextEdit, my computer scared me for a moment by shouting ‘It’s 11’o clock’. Let me tell victoria (system’s voice) not to announce the time when it is 12.00.
Hmm, I’m taking an oath now…If I survive tonight, I’m going to be the wisest person in the world from tomorrow.

Last saturday, I went to the Wilds, Cumberland, Ohio. It is a wildlife conservation center located on about 10,000 acres. The safari on a open bus was nice. I did not find more animals, but the trip was worth. The pictures below were taken using my phone camera, so it is not that good and I wasn’t not able to take pictures of animal from long distance. May be I should buy a decent camera before my next trip :).
I have spent this B’day with my colleagues last week. We had dinner at BRIO Tuscan Grille in Newport. It was a nice and simple celebration. I didn’t expect a cake 🙂

After dinner, we went to the movie – Snow White and the Huntsman. The show started arround 10:30 pm and I was quite involved. I was also curious on what scene I would be watching when it’s 12 on my birthday 🙂
You know what, when the clock hit twelve, I was in wonderland. Yes, the Snow White (Kristen Stewart) goes in to an enchanted forest where she finds blessed and beautiful creatures. I was there too 🙂
I’m completing 29th year today. Like every year, this one was special too.
Though I have not done anything good/great/big so far, I’m enjoying it. But the fact that I’m in to 30th year reminds me of few things. This is the stage where men becomes more responsible, save money, buy house, get married and settle in life.
I have not started doing any of those. Should I at least start it now? Come on, I’m just growing :).
I have no plans and I don’t want to settle. I hate to use brain to plan and live a calculated life. My brain does not work properly most of the time 😀 So I prefer to use my heart and live the way I love.
I hope this year will be great, fun and adventurous.
