As I stay home

Hello everyone, Hope you are all staying safe and healthy. With Corona going viral across the world, it has put a disruption on our everyday’s life. As I stay home, I want to share my thoughts and observations.

Government:

On March 23, 2020, The government of India have mandated the lockdown. It is a month now and surprisingly, the Central and Tamil Nadu state government seem to be doing a decent job on implementing and educating the people about the situation. Kudos to them.

One thing that I think they have messed up is with the preparedness activity for the lockdown. The announcement was a bit late and a very short time was given to people. It was a chaos and a nightmare for elderly and women who had to travel to their hometowns.

Considering our population, It could have been better if Govt announced this a week earlier instead of just giving a 2 day notice. However, things have settled and I believe people are safe home now.

People:

While government trying to take proper measures, not many people seem to adhere to the law. On one side there are poor people trying to cope up with this tough situation and on the other side folks roam around the city irresponsibly. By watching and reading news, I felt that a lot of people lack discipline and did not understand the consequences.

Once in a while during the lockdown, the Prime Minister of India requested people for door step activities like applauding and lighting candles. It is a good intention but a few people considered that as a challenge and took it to a whole new level of entertainment 👏 🔔 🍽  and celebration 🔥 🎆. That was really crazy.

Mother Nature:

The nature seem to be healing itself during this time. How do I say that?

interstellar_blightDusts: My apartment is close to the roads and collects a lot of dusts. I feel like I’m in the places shows in the movie Interstellar. Recently, the dusts and air pollution have significantly reduced. I don’t have to clean 🧹 the balcony very often😁.

Noise pollution have decreased as well. btw, why do we people in India honk a lot while driving 🎺 ?

Buying essentials:

I managed to buy the veggies 🍅 🌽 🌶  in near by shops, however, it was hard to find groceries, also Big Basket was mostly out of slots for delivery. After the initial days, we now have vegetable vendors come to our apartment and big basket started to have more slots as well. I have not stepped out of the apartment for the last 2 weeks. Essentials are enough to live a decent life and I will try follow the minimalism even even after the lockdown.

Work from home: (WFH)

I work for a Software company and we decided to work from home starting March 19 rather than waiting for the Government’s order. We arranged laptops, setup Virtual Machines and VPN for employees to work remotely.

WFH is not new to me but I feel like I’m glued to my computer 👨‍💻 from dawn to dusk. Huh, Every software engineer’s problem!

If you are someone who do not have an option to work at home, this is the time to find an alternate income options or build skills that helps you earn through internet. This pandemic also reminds us the importance of the emergency fund.

What else ?

Trust me, Staying home is not that hard. I have been practising since child hood. I’m an introvert. 😉

I usually watch animated movies and documentaries when at home. It is no different during lockdown. Just that my kid doesn’t allow at times and prefers rhymes instead.

If you have a smart TV or a streaming device you can subscribe to Netflix, Amazon prime Hotstar, Apple TV+ etc. Please stay away from DTH TV shows and serials, they are either negative or too much of artificial celebration, meaningless jokes with annoying laughter tracks. The TV content quality is no good. Here are the shows I have watched or in my Watchlist:

Netflix: Stranger Things, Series of unfortunate events, Minimalism, Abstract: the art of design, Babies etc.

Hotstar / Disney+: Modern family, Fresh off the boat, How I met your mother, Lion king, Frozen 2, Onward, Aladdin and a lot more good animated movies.

Amazon Prime: Young Sheldon, Shark Tank, the Middle etc.

Apple TV+: The morning show, SEE. Helpsters, Snoopy, Here we are: Notes for living on planet earth are good for kids.

This was a long post, are you still reading ? if so what are you folks doing to make this lockdown more useful and interesting?

Enterprise Architect

I’m an Application Architect who is in pursuit to become an Enterprise Architect. While looking for an opportunity to learn and grow in career, I came across the Open Group Enterprise Architecture certificate program (TOGAF). I was preparing for this exam on and off for several months until I decided to focus dedicatedly for the last few weeks. I finally attended the Togaf Part 1 exam and cleared it today.

This is foundation level and I need to prepare and pass one more exam to be Togaf certified.

I would like to share the list of my preparation materials so it will be helpful for someone who stumble up on my website.

Book: Togaf 9 Foundation Study Guide: 3rd Edition by Rachael Harrison.

If you are like me who prefers paperback over pdf, you can buy it in Amazon. The book also has sample questions.

Video course: Become an Enterprise Architect with TOGAF 9.1 Part 1 by Scott DuffyUdemy.com

I bought this course from Udemy.com and the tutor makes it simple to understand.

Going through the video course and the entire book helped me pass the exam.

Before I start to prepare for the Togaf part 2 exam, I would take a small break and spend sometime to create a tiny / silly app for Apple Watch. 🙂

I hope to become a successful Enterprise Architect in near future.

Happy Leap Year 2016

Hello 2016! Yes, it’s a bit late to say that. How about Happy Leap day ? 🙂 I haven’t blogged for a while and the new year post is long due. I made sure to write today.

Year 2015 was great, I created an iPhone app ‘Finish‘ with my wife, visited India, celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. There was even an extra second added in June 2015 ;). It was a good year (except the flood in few parts of southern India).
Now Goodbye to 2015 and welcome 2016! So, what is going to be my resolution? Here it is, This year,

  • I want to be responsible and wise
  • Be an inspiration.
  • I want to do my part to save the earth from getting warm. (Use energy wisely and make sure to turn off the computers, monitors at work)
  • Sleep on time and wake up early (Excuse me today 🙂 )
  • Talk to my Mom, Brother and my friends and family often
  • Blog frequently
  • Save money
  • Travel and explore
  • Read and Learn more
  • Create something I like
  • Be good and enjoy every day

Most importantly, I will complete 10 years of my career in mid 2016. I wanted to do something big in technology but i don’t think I took any step. I want to make sure to pursue my dreams!

That was a huge list right ?

So what I did with the extra 24 hours that I got today ?  I made a Brownie cake for my wife.

It tasted bad, but Brownie looks brown, hence proved!

Happy New Year and Leap Day! Cheers!

PS: Later, I cleaned the mess that I made in kitchen.

Finish

Me and my wife have finally completed the reminder app. It is called Finish.

Thanks to my wife for helping me in learning a new programming language and working with me on this app. We published it for free. It neither has ads nor In-App purchases.

Finish Codersb

It is now available on iOS App Store.

About the app:

Finish is a simple reminder app which has very minimal but required features. There are tons of To-do and reminder apps in the market, but this one focuses on a simple todo list with lovely interface. We wanted it to be easy to set a reminder date and time. Other apps would take multiple scrolls and swipes to choose a future month and year. This one requires only a few taps to choose any month of any year.

We have referred many user interface and worked on several designs to reach this point. Here’s a screenshot of app.

Finish_TIme

I hope someone from one corner of the world will like this app 🙂

I am also working on a new website for this. It is codersb.com.

It feels good to finish something 🙂

What’s happening?

It has been 2 months since I blogged. What was I doing all these days ??

Remember? I wanted to create a reminder app and posted a mock up design ? Yes, I was totally focusing on it and nearing to complete the initial version.

I have named it as Finish. I will tell more once I publish the app.

New York City

Long time no see 🙂

May 2o14 was a busy month for me. Shifting to another apartment, trip to New York etc.

My wife and I visited New York. We stayed in a hotel near by Times Square. Our room was in 24th floor and the view from the window was spectacular.

Day one:

We reached hotel in the evening and decided to go to Empire State Building which is very close to the hotel. We went up to 86th and 102 floor to see the night view of the New York City.  It was really fantastic.

Day two:

I booked tickets online to Statue of Liberty, We didn’t get a clue on where to take the bus, so hopped in to a taxi and reached the place at 9 am.

The ferry took us to the statue of liberty, the experience was so good when I saw the statue on one side and skyline on the other side.  It was mesmerizing to see the lady liberty standing tall and her arm reaching the clouds. The statue is an awesome outcome of Engineering and Art.

My wife and I reached hotel to took rest for a while. I appreciated myself for booking a hotel in the New York City though it is expensive than booking somewhere cheap and far.

After a short rest, my wife dressed pretty well and I got ready for Madame Tussauds.

Day Three:

Walked on the Brooklyn Bridge then took a subway to central park, but travelled towards the other side :). finally figured it out and took the right subway to central park.

late in the evening, we walked down the streets of New York City. I felt Times Square like T Nagar, Ranganathan street minus the tall buildings and digital billboards. 🙂

Next day, we took a train to New Jersey to catch the flight back to Cincinnati.

New York is a very happening city and we enjoyed it pretty well.

Hello 2014!

Happy New Year to all. 2013 was a wonderful year for me. Lot of memorable moments happened, I got married, bought a decent car, traveled to few places, but what about the most important 2013 resolution ? Saving Money?

No!! I didn’t save at all. Let me try this year ;). My 2014 resolution is going to be the same as previous year. Save Money and Travel a lot!

I hope to make 2014 a much more delightful year.

Hello 2014

Here’s is the lovely annual report of my blog made by WordPress!

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,300 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 38 trips to carry that many people.

The missing hour

Sundays are great. I feel awesome and pressure less on every weekend morning but today was different. I got up, saw the clock and felt so satisfied that I slept till 9.

20130310-130726.jpg

I checked mails, pending notifications on Facebook and when I noticed the time on iPad and phone, I was shocked :s. It is an hour ahead of my wall clock.

I lost my precious time. Where did an hour go? When I asked my pal google, this is what she said…

Huh! Daylight Savings!

Why do people play with the Time ? Why did they choose a Sunday morning though ?
I would recommend a Daylight Savings shift on a boring monday afternoon. 😀

King Charlie

My friend Bindu wanted to adopt a dog. He decided to buy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from a breeder 25 miles away from his home. A couple of fat white kittens and loud barking of dogs heard from backyard welcomed us. The breeder showed two sibling puppies to my friend. I was staring at little turtles swimming inside the aquarium and did not show any interest on dogs, I just love them when they are far from me ;). We came home with a puppy and named it as Charlie but I call it as King Charlie.

It’s so playful. Our weekend was busy and nice with Charlie but on weekdays at office, it was so hard for my friend to leave the little Charlie at home. We visited home during lunch to spend some time. Bindu was so occupied and couldn’t concentrate on work so he decided to return it back to the breeder.

Yeah, that was sad but he had no choice. We returned and it’s good that Charlie’s brother was still at the breeder’s house. King Charlie showed a sad face 😦

King Charlie

A guy drove for long and bought a cute puppy

He named it as Charlie and treated so lovely

Took money from his pouch and bought toys, crate and couch.

With the little pup’s play, his blues flew away

The sun went down and they slept on their own

The dog came closer when the night became darker

When it heard a loud thunder, it curled on his shoulder.

He went to office so had to leave the dog unnoticed

He felt hard at work and missed him so much

He couldn’t take care, so return it back to the breeder.

I have created a video of Charlie with my friend Bindu.
